Henry's son William operated a tavern in Paisley since 1857. The 1861 Census lists the building as a one story log structure on a 1/2 acre worth $2000. The tavern stock consisted of 40 barrels of whiskey and brandy worth $750. The 1867 Business Directory has an advertisement for the British Hotel which notes This house has every accommodation for travellers, a good driving house and stabling for seventy horses. |
