Paisley Advocate March 14, 1912. Killed By Falling Tree
Malcolm Blue Meets Instant Death in O'Hagan's Bush
The town was startled this (Wednesday ) morning by the report of a fatal accident in O'Hagan's bush, on the 10th of Elderslie, a short distance from where a gang of men had been cutting logs all winter for A. Fisher and son.
Malcolm Blue and William Murcar were engaged felling a big elm tree, and had sawn nearly through the butt, when it began to topple over. The sawn trunk split, a large stout splinter about 10x 18 inches standing firmly up from the stump, raising the butt 25 or 30 feet in the air before allowing it to fall. Then the butt swung out sideways striking Blue on the head and crushing him beneath its weight quite deeply into the snow.
As usual the men had stepped back to what they considered a safe place until the tree would reach the ground. Murcur had gone behind another tree, and as soon as the crash was over he came out to resume work. Not seeing his companion anywhere he glanced up and down the roadway a couple of times before noting the unfortunate man's leg's sticking upwards from beneath the tree. The head and body were not visable at all.. As the trunk was about two feet in diameter it was necessary to cut a length off before it could be moved by a team of horses.
The deceased leaves a widow and four children , who havethe deepest sympathy of the community in their sudden bereavement. Deceased was about 44 years of age.
