Paisley Advocate April 1904
The published report of the circumstances of the death of Duncan Blue at Portage la Prairie turns out to be inaccurate. It was reported that the deceased and another party were found dead in bed together, which was together untrue. Particulars are given by a Portage paper. It was on March 23 that neighbours suspected there was something wrong about Blue's home. They looked through the window and found him lying across the bed , his arms rigid and stiff. The police were notified and the house entered, but Blue was found to be past all earthly help, as the body was quite stiff. Nothing in the front room was disturbed but in the kitchen a lamp was upset and the stove pushed out of place. The most plausible explanation for this was Blue had been trying to light the fire with coal oil from the lamp but as he reached for the matches , which were upset, he was attacked by a dizziness and fell against the stove , upsetting the lamp . He evidently arose and stumbled into the room where he sank on the bed and breathed his last. Heart failure was evidently the cause of death, although he has suffered from other diseases. He suffered from gangrene. The unfortunate man had been dead six or seven hours when discovered.
