McGOWAN, Evelyn Kathleen "Muffet" On Friday, December 2, 2005, Mrs. Evelyn McGowan of Killam Long Term Care, formerly of Sedgewick, Alberta passed away at the age of 90 years. Evelyn was born to Hank and Margaret Baker on a farm near Sedgewick, Alberta on August 9, 1915. She married Earl McGowan on December 30, 1940 and to this union a daughter, Margaret (Peggy) was born on September 28, 1941 at Westlock, Alberta. The family farmed in this area for a few years and the rest of Evelyn's life was spent in the Sedgewick District. She always joked as to what a traveler she was, being as she lived 1/2 a mile from where she was born. At 90 years of age she may well have been the oldest living female in the Sedgewick area. She is survived by her loving family; daughter, Peggy (Keith) Adams of Port Alberni, B.C.; brother, Mick (Mary-Ellen) Baker of Medicine Hat and sister-in-law, Kewpie Baker of Camrose; three grandsons, Gary (Alison) Adams, Dale (Tammy) Adams and David (Brenda) Adams; great-grandchildren, Allissa, Kyle and Kiana Evelyn as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her parents, Hank and Margaret, her husband, Earl, brothers, Lyle (Kay) Baker, Harry (Helen) Baker and Ted and Jim Baker. She enjoyed her life in her little farming community. Thanks to all of her dear friends and neighbors around the district for being there for her. We will all miss this spunky lady who no longer lives at the top of the hill. Her door was always open for a cup of coffee and a game of cards. Give her ten minutes and she was ready to go to bingo. Not bad for 90 years of age.

Evelyn married Norman "Earl" McGOWAN, son of Robert James McGOWAN and Martha Iona ROWE, on December 30, 1940 in , , Alberta, Canada. Earl was born in December 1902 in , , , USA, died in 1985, aged 83, and was buried in Sedgewick Memorial Cemetery, Flagstaff, AB. He was usually called Earl.

From Mick's obituary :
Mick enjoyed a long successful career with Federated Co-op. He began his career in Killam, with moves to Vegreville, St. Paul, and then to Medicine Hat where he retired as general manager approximately 30 years ago. He could be found at coffee time, playing "bush" with his fellow employees.
Mick especially enjoyed the annual family vacation to Fairmont Hot Springs. The week was filled with golfing, swimming, and coming together each night for "Happy Hour". Mick enjoyed his friends and his New Year's Birthday Parties were a highlight of the year. Mick had an infectious sense of humour and loved a good joke. Mick was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. His children and grandchildren could rely on him for guidance and support, as he was always ready with a listening ear and a helping hand. Upon his retirement his days were filled with golfing, curling and spending time with his family. He also became Mary Ellen's personal assistant, chauffeuring her and her champion Shih Tzu's around the province. Over the years, Mick and Mary Ellen were able to travel to Europe, Hawaii, and Mexico, but he was always happiest at home.
