The death occurred on Friday at the Bruce County Hospital, Walkerton of a well-known and life-long resident of the Walkerton area, with the passing of Mr. Albert Bell in his 83rd year.
The deceased, who suffered a broken hip in a fall the forepart of January, never recovered from the effects of the mishap. For two weeks following the accident, which occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elden Miller, Hinks St., Walkerton, with whom he had made his home for nineteen years, he was hospitalized in London. He was then transferred to the Bruce County Hospital at Walkerton, where death ensued.
Born April 15th, 1877 on the second concession of Brant Township, he was the son of the late Matthew Bell and Anne McConnell. On Dec. 21st, 1898, he was wed to Miss Lucy Sheane, who predeceased him in 1953.
The late Mr. Bell farmed in Brant Twp. until 1916, when, with his wife and family he moved to Walkerton. The Bell home for many years was the residence situated at the south-east corner of the Gibson and Jane street intersection.
Since coming to the Bruce Capital and up until his retirement in 1957, the deceased was engaged as a salesman for farm supply firms, his shop being immediately south of the Roxy Theatre.
He wp respected for his fair dealings by all with whom he had occasion to do business with during his lifetime.
The late Mr. Bell was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Walkerton..
Surviving are three daughters, Mildred, Mrs. Ray Pauli and Jean, Mrs. Peter Cutter, both of Paisley, and Elda Mrs. Elden Miller of Walkerton, also six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The remains rested at the Tanner & Pearson Funeral Home, Walkerton, where the funeral service was held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. R. R. Conner, minister of St. Paul's Church, officiated at the service in the funeral home, and also at the graveside in the Walkerton Cemetery, the place of interment.
The beautiful floral tributes and the number who attended the funeral of the late Mr. Bell, attested to the high regard in which he was held in the community. The pallbearers were all nephews of the deceased, Messrs. Norman Clinton, Fred Blackwell, Roy Peters, Gordon Clark, and Russell Hewitt, all of Kincardine, and Ralph Hill of Ripley.
