1. George BANNERMAN, son of Donald BANNERMAN and Christina GORDON, was born in 1791 in Kildonan, , Sutherlandshire, Scotland,1 died on February 10, 1859 in West Gwillimbury Twp, Simcoe Co, Ontario, Canada1 aged 68, and was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery W Gwillimbury Twp, Simcoe Co, Ontario, Canada.

At this time (1811) there were sad times in the Highlands of Scotland. Cottars and crofters were being driven from their small holdings by the Duchess of Sutherland and others, to make way for large sheep farms. The "Highland clearances" have left a stain on the escutcheons of more than one nobleman. Lord Selkirk, whose estates were in the south of Scotland, and who had no special connection with the Celts, nevertheless took pity on the helpless Highland exiles. Ships were prepared, and approx. 270 highland colonists sent out between 1811 and 1815.
The names of these settlers were those well known amongst us, as Sutherland, McKay, McLeod, McPherson, Matheson, Macdonald, Livingstone, Polson, McBeath, Bannerman and Gunn.
George Bannerman left Scotland aboard the Prince of Wales disembarking at York Factory on August 18, 1813.

George married Christina SUTHERLAND on February 12, 1815 in Red River Settlement, NWT, British N America.1 Christina was born in 1789 in Kildonan, , Sutherlandshire, Scotland, died on December 17, 1875 in West Gwillimbury Twp, Simcoe Co, Ontario, Canada aged 86, and was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery W Gwillimbury Twp, Simcoe Co, Ontario, Canada. Another name for Christina was GUNN.

Christina left Scotland on board the Prince of Wales along with her brother William Sutherland and his wife Margaret.
