29. William TRAVISS (Jeremiah20, Robert8, Robert4, Garret1) was born in 1743 in Crompond, Westchester, New York, USA1 and died in January 1779 in Putnam, Washington, New York, USA1 aged 36.

William was a United empire Loyalist and died in a British Garrison in New York. All his property was confiscated and Elizabeth moved to New Brunswick with her family & petitioned the British government for compensation.


William married Elizabeth FOWLER, daughter of Jeremiah FOWLER and Sarah DUSENBERY, about 1762 in , , New York, USA. Elizabeth was born about 1745 in , , New York, USA3 and died after May 17, 1802 in , Kings County, New Brunswick, Canada.3

34. Caleb TRAVISS (Jeremiah20, Robert8, Robert4, Garret1) was born on January 30, 1773 in , Westchester, New York, USA1 and died on April 12, 1842 in Glen Williams, Halton Co, Ontario, Canada1 aged 69.

As a young man, Caleb developed an intense desire to marry Susan Merritt, but her father would not permit the marriage unless Caleb moved to Ontario and established his family there. Joseph Merritt had sided with the loyalists during the American Revolution and found New York decidedly inhospitable after hostilities ended. He took his family to southern Ontario in 1790. Caleb agreed to his future father-in-law's terms, and he and Susan were married in 1794. From that marriage came at least fourteen children, including Caleb, Jr. (2/07/1810), all born in South Grimsby Township, Ontario. After Susan's death in 1817 upon the birth of her last child, Caleb remarried to Sarah Hodgekins and had at least nine more children. Caleb served with the 4\super th\nosupersub Lincoln Regiment (for Britain) in the War of 1812 and sat on the Grimsby Township Council in 1813.

Caleb married Susan MERRITT, daughter of Joseph MERRITT and Unknown, about 1794 in , , Ontario, Canada.

Caleb next married Susan MERRITT in 1974 in Caistor Twp, Lincoln Co, Ontario, Canada.1 Susan was born in 17781 and died on December 6, 1817 in Caistor Twp, Lincoln Co, Ontario, Canada1 aged 39.
