44. George William GRANSDEN (Elizabeth "Jenny" LEDGERWOOD3, Alexander2, James1) was born on August 18, 1902 in Greenock Twp, Bruce Co, Ontario, Canada2 and died on May 15, 1976 in Owen Sound, Grey Co, Ontario, Canada17 aged 73.
George was born at Eden Grove, four months after the death of his father, Jane having left the farm and moved there. They lived with her father, mother, and sisters, Ella and Ethel. Jane left George there, and went to work in Toronto. She died when he was eight years old. He attended public school in Eden Grove, and high school in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, where Ella and her husband, Iden Tolten, were living.
He became a sailor on the Great Lakes, sailing on the Michipicoten. In September 1923, he worked with the Bell Telephone Company until he was laid off in December of that year. He was re-engaged in June of 1924, and laid off in August.
He was working for a farmer named Herb Baker, near Woodford, Ontario, when he met Audrey Doran, whom he married back in Weyburn. He worked as an attendant at the Weyburn Mental Hospital. This job, working with severely disturbed people, began to bother him, and he was having trouble sleeping when off shift. They returned to Ontario and took up farming with Audrey,s mother and brothers at Heathcote.
In December 1926 he went back to the Bell, was laid off in April 1927, and was rehired in August of that year.
This time the employment was permanent and he stayed for the following 42 years.
George married Clara Audry DORAN, daughter of Ellis DORAN and Jerusha SILVERTHORN, on December 11, 1925 in Weyburn, , Saskatchewan, Canada.17 Clara was born on January 1, 1904 in St. Vincent Twp, Grey Co, Ontario, Canada17 and died on March 31, 1957 in Owen Sound, Grey Co, Ontario, Canada17 aged 53.
