In 1958 John & Stien bought the Vanderplas 5c to $1.00. They sold the store to Ron and Vicki ABBS in 1978 and retired to a new home in the north end of Paisley.

Stien worked for her father delivering milk door to door as a teenager in Schoorl. After her marriage to Jan van der PLAS they continued to operate the Melkhandel until their relocation to Canada in 1949. Stien worked at the Paisley Creamery grading eggs until 1958 when they purchased the 5c - $1.00 Store in Paisley from Wally Gregg. Stien operated this store until they retired in 1978.
