Jacob BLOM was born in December 1822 in the dyke and truck farmers village Broek op Langedijk in the northwestern part of the Dutch western province Noord-Holland, son of day laborer Jan Jansz BLOM and Trijntje Jacobs KONING, named for his maternal grandfather Jacob KONING. His father signed Jacob's birth certificate (geboorteakte) in a very neat handwriting with "Jan Jansz Blom".
About 1842 Jacob Blom was rejected for his five years of duty serving in the National Army because of a physical deficit. He was 1 m 64 cm tall and had an oval face, high forehead, grey eyes, sharp nose, common mouth, sharp chin, light brown hair and eyebrows.
The 26 years aged laborer Jacob BLOM married on Sunday 20 May 1849 in Broek op Langedijk to the four years younger Teetje DEKKER, born in Broek op Langedijk too, daughter of hawker, coster (venter) Aarjen DEKKER and Geertje IJFS. Their family ultimately consisted of at least ten children.
Teetje DEKKER passed away on December 5, 1876 and the 57 years old laborer Jacob BLOM remarried on Friday 9 April 1880 in Broek op Langedijk to the one year older Pietertje BAKKER born on 22 January 1822 in Heerhugowaard, province Noord-Holland, daughter of Jan BAKKER and Jantje DEKKER. She died less than a year later on 28 February 1881 at the age of 59 years in Broek op Langendijk.
On April 7, 1882 Jacob BLOM (58 yeaes old, workman, head of household), his sons Arie (16, workman) and Jacob (14, workman), and his daughter Aagje (10) arrived on the ship Pollux, out of Amsterdam, at the port of New York, Castle Garden.
